Panasonic MC-UG413 Upright Vacuum Cleaner, Red finish

another great panasonic upright vacuum cleaner
This is the third Panasonic vacuum cleaner I've purchased and I've been satisfied with every one of them. The first two I bought are now over 15 years old and still work great today. This one is similar to those. It works just as well and I assume it will be just as durable. And it uses the same standard bag that fits in my previous two Panasonic vacuum cleaners so I don't have to worry about buying a separate bag for this model. One bag fits all.

The suction power of this vacuum cleaner is great. The included probing tools are convenient. The durability of the previous models suggests that this will be just as durable. It uses bags to collect the dirt. This is a lot better than the bag-less design where you need to empty the canister somewhere and worry about inhaling the dirt. It uses standard bags that can easily be found in department stores and that fit in all of the Panasonic upright bag-required models.

This is a great vacuum cleaner. I...

Performs better than bagless so far, but...
(MC-UG413) I am still getting used to it. It's much heavier and much more difficult to carry upstairs than I expected and compared to my 25 year old Panasonic upright (which still works but nobody sells the bags anywhere except online). There is no hand hold place for lifting it with 2 hands and too heavy for one-handed lifting, at least for us seniors.
The upholstery attachment brush comes off all the time; I'll have to tape that on.
The attachments on board is nice but the hose is too short (compared to what I'm used to). I find I cut corners a lot rather than struggle with the vacuum cleaner. The suction is powerful enough, maybe too much for attachments (makes quite a loud noise). After a while, it gives off a smell like it's overheating. It does not self-propel like the old machine. Basically it's a hard workout and I'd return it if I had gotten it from a retail store. I once bought an expensive bag-less vacuum which ended up out with the trash. So, we'll see how this...

Burned out after only one year and 50 uses
I bought this vacuum cleaner in late September, 2011. It did a decent job on my carpet; not great, but decent. I would go slow to make sure that it picked up well. The automatic level adjuster was nice when going from one carpet to another. It also was quieter than my previous cleaner.

About a month after the one year warranty expired, the motor burned out. I only used it once a week on about 300 sq ft of low profile carpet. Because of the low usage, I phoned Panasonic customer support and asked for a warranty extension. Customer Support indicated that they would provide an exception if I would fax them a copy of the invoice. I faxed the invoice the same day. After a week and no response, I called back. It seems that the fax went to a different departmment who decided that they would not grant an exception. Any competent service company could see that the unit is barely used and looks brand new!

This experience says a lot about Panasonic's product quality,...
