Patton PUH9000-U Rugged 1500-Watt Utility Heater

I do not recommend buying this heater! Patton PUH-9000
I bought three of these heaters in February 2010 when my central heating failed. Out of the three, only one still worked after a month's worth of use. (On during the day, off while we were sleeping). Not one of them were capable of heating a 6 x 9 room which was the smallest of the three bedrooms I bought them for. You really had to be sitting next to them to feel any warmth.

It is now December 2010. Central heating hasn't been replaced because of financial/job concerns (plus I've discovered its cheaper to run the electric heaters then running a natural gas furnace here). The remaining working Patton heater I just put in a 15 x 15 room that was showing 40 degrees on the indoor thermometer and after two hours of cycling on/off, it has only managed to raise the temperature 2 degrees in that room with the door closed, the furnace heat registers sealed shut and the windows covered in plastic. If you want warmth, then its my recommendation that you don't waste your money...

can be a good heater, with conditions
this can be a great heater, but it suffers from a serious design flaw. the heating element and fan assembly are enclosed inside the heater with the thermostat directly above that. now for the flaw, all that stuff that makes a heater heat is fully enclosed inside the heater. meaning there are no ventilation holes anywhere on the case to let the excess heat that builds up inside the case out. what dose this mean? it means the unit will run on high for maybe a minute on the highest setting and turn off for 20 minutes minimum. my room when i first tried this heater dropped to 58 degrees and it still wouldn't kick back on. the following is not recommended for the average user, my heater, i cut vent holes in the handles and when that wasent enough i added a small computer fan on the back of the case to bring in fresh air and blow it directly over the thermostat. now it cycles on and off like its supposed to. so if you like to modify things you just buy to get them working well, then buy...

Don't Waste Your Money
Product has a nice look but doesn't work. The thermostat is a very bad design and useless. Unit cycles on and off every few minutes. Can not heat room like that. Don't waste your money on this unit.
